A Millers win boosts survival hopes

Rotherham United move out of the bottom two for the first time of the season.


Rotherham took all 3 points with an emphatic  5 - 0 win against Stockport  to keep their league status alive.

Stockport play on a 3G pitch which seemed to suit there free flowing football. Rotherham seemed to adapt quickly into the windy conditions and caused problems for the Stockport defence.

Early shots by Suzanne Davies, Becky Hale. and in form Claire Needham, but the Stockport GK made some excellent saves.

The Millers took the lead after 35mins when the stockport defender played the ball back to the keeper who was shut down by Suzanne Davies and forced a poor clearance. She pounced and forced the ball home. Rotherham held the lead into the half time interval, for a well deserved rest.

Revitalised the Millers  forced numerous errors in the Stockport defence and they were rewarded when Davies made an excellent run and delivered a perfect cross to a brave Hayley Wood at the back post to slot the ball past the GK on 55mins.

They went further ahead 2mins later when an excellent ball from Rachel Allen over the Stockport defence to Davies to get her second and the Millers third. The ladies went from strength to strength and totally domonated the game with Stockports spirit well and truely beaten. Helen Lynskey found space on the wing and drove stronly into the box to play Woods in for her second. Substiute Natasha Carlton got straight into the game and put in some excellent runs and tackles. She played in Lynskey who shot low to the GK right, the GK was only able to push the ball out to the incoming Gemma McCool (substitute on for the injured Needham) to fire home a much deserved 5th for the Millers.

Rotherham continue there league game on tuesday evening when they take on local rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Maltby KO 7.45pm
