FA Cup victory

Rotherham Utd Ladies 6 v 2 Rochdale Utd Ladies

Rotherham United Ladies progress into the four round of the womens FA Cup with a convincing win over Rochdale. The ladies were determined to put their dissappointing league performances behind them and to show a clean pair of heels to the combination side.

The millers made the best possible start to the game when Kerry Longstone played the ball perfectly into Suzanne Davies path for her to run on and slam the ball past the oncoming GK after only 3 mins.

Rochdale reponded quickly and a shot from Rochdale's Woods from all of 40 yards saw Charlie Whiteley pull off a tremendous save to force the ball over the bar.

Rotherham looked the more comfortable on the ball and when Amy Pollock played Kerry Longstone in she fooled the Rochdale defender and played the ball wide to Katie Hanson who narrowly missed on 12 Mins. 2 mins later the Millers were caught square at the back and the fast winger shot with force and the Millers GK could not prevent the shot flying into the net to bring Rochdale level.

Rochdale were lifted by their equaliser and grew in confidence to push the Millers deep into their own half. They were rewarded for their efforts and the away side went in front just before the half time break.

Rotherham raised their game and were rewarded for their efforts when several shots on target saw the ball fall to Suzanne Davies and she fired home from 10yards out, to put the Millers back in the game at 2 - 2. The two Millers forwards caused the away side to sit deeper in their defence which enabled Claire Needham and Helen Lynskey to push more forward and on 52 mins a ball from Needham into Suzanne Davies who drove into the box only to be brought down and the ref had no hesitation but to award a penalty (converted easily by kerry Longstaone). The Millers were caught napping straight from the off and two passes into the Rochdale forward saw her level the score once again.

Kerry Longstone rounded off her hat trick with a fine individual goal rounding the GK on 75mins. Rotherhams 4th took the stuffing out of Rochdale and the Millers romped home with 2 further goals from Suzanne Davies and a cracking 4th goal by Kerry Longstone with only 4mins remaining.

The ladies have a week of this weekend due to other FA Cup matches being postponed. The draw for the 4th round of the cup has been kind to the Millers when they entertain either Portsmouth or Chesnham on the 6th January.
