Rotherham United Ladies F.C travelled to Newcastle to try to produce some good football to put some more points on the table. Dominating the first half for 30 minutes, the Millers girls stunned the Newcastle defence with shots from Pollock and Jones. Newcastle resorted to clearing the ball giving Rotherham a number of corners. The Newcastle defence stood firm and took the pressure with Rotherham unable to convert chances. In the 31st minute, Newcastle broke from a Rotherham set piece and the winger was brought down outside the box. The ball was hit hard across the goal and the incoming striker Gunnarson met it first, heading the ball past the Rotherham keeper. 1 – 0 to the Geordies. Rotherham restarted the game, the Newcastle defence picking up the ball, hoisted it over the Millers defence leaving Gunnaarson to run onto the ball. Whitley came off her line and bravely pushed the ball away from Gunnarson, only to see it rebound of another player straight back into Gunnersons path and she put the ball into the open net. Rotherham upped their pressure and Davis had a number of shots towards the end of the half, the Newcastle keeper claiming those.
Fired up for the second half the Millers girls took the game to Newcastle and in the 53rd minute after Newcastle had tried a long range shot, Whitley claimed the ball. A quick ball was played to Davis, who left one on one with the keeper cooly took the ball round her and scored giving Rotherham a life line. In the 66th minute Allen played the ball across the Rotherham defence to Durrands who knocked it up the line to Hanson, who put the ball across the box first time for Davis to shoot. The Newcastle keeper just managing to tip the ball over the crossbar. Rotherham continued to push Newcastle back and there was a belief that they could pull a second goal back.
