Rotherham United Ladies F.C were away to Lincoln City Ladies. Lincoln currently sit second in the league and the Millers girls knew they would be in for a tough game.
After an early barrage of shots from Lincoln who hit the post and over the bar Rotherham settled and began to play some excellent football. Snappy passing and using the wingers caused the Lincoln defence to make errors and it became clear that the Millers could gain something from the game.
In the 12th minute Suzanne Davis left the full back in her wake and crossed the ball into the box for Kerry longstone to slide in, narrowly missing the ball which would have certainly beat the experienced Lincoln keeper. Rotherham continued to run at Lincoln and winger Katie Hanson ran rings round the lincoln full back. Shots being cleared frantically by the Lincoln defence. In the 18th minute Davis received a ball over the top of the defence and with only the keeper to beat volleyed the ball, the Millers certain it would be a goal, only to see the Lincoln keepr make an excellent save. Full back Amy Pollock kept the Lincoln midfield busy and from a free kick crossed the ball perfectly for Helen Lynskey to head the ball narrowly over the Lincoln cross bar. Davis had further attempts on goal and at half time the score remained at 0 – 0.
The Millers ladies had stepped up their performance and competed in all areas of the park. A really good half for Rotherham.
The second half commenced and Lincoln, embarrassed by their first half started to get more of the ball. Rotherham keeper Charlie Whitley made some good saves. In the 54th minute Lincoln blasted the ball into the Rotherham box and a number of blocks kept the ball out of the net, unfortunatley the ball fell to the Lincoln striker who managed to get the ball past Whitley. A loud cheer went up and Lincoln stepped up their game. In the 58th minute the Lincoln winger got past the Millers midfield, crossed the ball to the far post, an unmarked Lincoln striker headed the ball into the net with ease. Rotherham continued to try to push Lincoln back but their physical presence saw them winning tackles and in the 77th minute they scored their third goal after the striker was left one on one with the keeper.
Rotherham kept up their efforts and in the 80th minute Davis saw an excellent shot at goal pushed round the post by the Lincoln keeper. Davis had further chances with shots going narrowly over the bar. In the 86th minute Rotherham gained a free kick for obstruction. Katie Durrands lofted the ball with Kerry Jones out jumping the Lincoln defence. A header down was only just kept out by the feet of the Lincoln keeper. Full time and Lincoln took all three points.
