Sunderland Ladies 4 v 1 Rotherham Utd Ladies
The two and a half hour journey back form Sunderland on Sunday evening was a difficult one, after the Millers underservedly came home with nothing. Due to the high, strong winds the game was reasonably scrapping, with both teams closing down quickly and not allowing each other to play. Sunderland scored first with a volley at the back post, after some poor defending from the left full back. Pollock certainly made up for her mistake 5 mins later, with a beautiful ball through to Hanson, who slotted it home for Rotherhams equaliser. Key player and center half Carla Baxby was injured after just 25mins, forcing the management to alter the side.
Half time came at it was clear that Rotherham were the happier of the two sides, especially as only a few moths ago the Millers were two leagues below Sunderland.
The second half played similar to the first, with no clear chances for either side, as they seemed to cancel each other out. The young Millers side seemed to be heading to what would have been an excellent point, when a free kick conceeded on the edge of the area, was headed in at the far post. Heads immediateley dropped as Rotherham knew there was no going back with just 2 mins left on the clock. A corner kick conceeded just 1 min later curled directly in and over keeper Whiteleys head. The Rotherham team collapsed for the final minutes and let in another poor goal in extra time.
