Rotherham Utd Ladies have another very important fixture this weekend, as they have a long journey away to West Brom. The two teams have already met this season, with the Millers coming out strong victors in a 8 V 3 home win. Rotherham need a victory on Sunday to maintain their 8 point lead at the top of the league, and place even more pressure upon rivals Coventry.

Rotherham Utd Ladies got the New Year off to a great start with a 1 v 3 victory away at Leicester City Ladies.

The Millers started the year 2007 as they finished 2006 with a good, solid league victory, away at an impressive Leicester City.

Both teams struggled early on to find their form after the Christmas break, but is was Rotherham who settled the quickest with Carla Baxby, back from a 3 month injury nighmare, who started to get the visitors ticking from her new midfield role.

The Millers struck first, midway through the first half after good work from Longstone found Davies who pivoted and put Wood through on goal, where she bravely competed with a defender and the keeper to put her side in front.
Rotherham now began to relax and play the ball around on a good pitch that suited their style of football.
It was no surprise when Rotherham increased their lead 10 mins before the break from a quick shot on the turn by Needham.
Leicester bounce back with a cracking goal after good work from the home side No:8 who rode 5 tackles before putting her centre forward through to pull a goal back.
The Leicester keeper pulled off two magnificent saves in quick succession from Longstone and Needham to prevent Rotherham from sealing the victory before half time.

The early part of the second half saw the visitors dominate and increase their lead via a quick free kick, that was placed into the bottom right hand corner from the hard working Lynskey.
Leicester City saw a lot more of the ball in the last 20 minutes of the game but never really looked like penetrating the Millers defence.
Davies had a good shot narrowly go wide and Lynskey had again a good effort tipped over the bar by the Leicester keeper.
Rotherham held out reasonably easy to take three more valuable points from a difficult game after the Christmas break.

Manager comments:
"We trained hard for three sessions over the Christmas period and looked rusty early on but rode through that sticky patch to play, at times, some very good football. I was particularly please with our work rate and desire to hold onto the points we secured quite early on in the second half. There are times, in certain games, when we must play within ourselves and keep back a certain amount of effort for other games and other fights to come. It was very pleasing to see Carla back after 3 months out and this now gives me further selection options and makes places there for the taking and ensures that everyone works for the right to wear the Rotherham shirt".
