Rotherham Utd Ladies put their defeat last week behind them, and returned their concentration back to the league title with a 2 V 0 victory over Welsh based side TNS Ladies.
Rotherham didn't take this great opportunity to enhance their very good goal difference when 9 man T.N.S. visited Parkgate last Sunday.
The entire 90 minutes were played in the visitors half, as numeric superiority dictated, but Rotherhams' first 45 mins lacked any urgency or commitment and only TNS finished the half with their heads held high.
The half time talk was listened to by the homesters and Rotherham set their stall out to overpower T.N.S. by playing their brand of open football and making T.N.S. chase shadows.
It took until 15 minutes from the end before Davies broke the deadlock and settled everyones nerves. Rotherham powered forward for more goals, Davies finished off her brace with a fine dipping header.
The T.N.S. goalkeeper made 6 excellent saves from Davies (2) Longstone, Lynskey, Thickett and Wood and with at least, in excess of a further double figures in shots and efforts at goal, Rotherham could have and should have had a hatful.
Managers' comments:
"This type of game is a managers' and players' nightmare as frustration set in early on in the game. You either completely overrun the opposition or struggle to open them up. It was a strange game, as we opened them up regularly and created well in excess of a dozen good goalscoring chances, but only put away two.I was very disappointed with our first half performance but in the second half we played with more determination and commitment.
I have got to be pleased with the three points, but the players must learn how to concentrate and work out situations that are presented to them, without me having to put them straight all the time.I'm sure this will come in time and we'll all learn a lot more about each other as time goes by".
Squad: Nash, B.Booth, MacClean, Sloan, Durrands, Wood, Lynskey, Longstone, Needham, Thickitt, Davis
