Rotherham Utd. entertained Stretford Victoria from the North Midland Combination League last Sunday in the second round of the F.A.Cup.

The home side came out worthy winners by 4 goal to two in a bruising encounter.
Rotherham started well and as early as the second minute they had the Stretford back four scampering  about with their expansive football.

With Wood in a tenacious mood down Rotherhams right flank it was only time before something cracked in the visitors defense and it did midway through the first half when Lynskey hammered home a 15 yard drive. This ignited Rotherham and they started to torment the Stretford team and opened them up with ease. With better finishing from Davies, Thickett and Lynskey, Rotherham could have scored even more before half time but against the run of play, Stretford scored from a free kick after keeper Nash had made a fine save onto the cross bar, but a visiting attacker was quicker than Rotherhams defender to stab home the rebound.

The second half saw basically one way traffic as Rotherham tour apart their opponents with some breathtaking attacking football.
One move from Thicket who carried the ball 30 metres into the heart of the Stretford defense, with options on both flanks from Longstone and Wood, and Davies giving a third from the centre forward position, culminated in Thicket taking the Wood option who calmly blasted the ball past the visiting keeper. This one goal optimized the expansive, option orientated football that the management are trying to get the team playing and was worth the entrance fee alone.

Longstone scored shortly after with a fine run and shot and Lynskey finished off a scintillating 15 minutes spell with her second of the afternoon.
The visiting team never gave up and scored a consolation goal 10 minutes from the end from the penalty spot.

Managers comments:

"I was particularly pleased with our whole team performance but special mention must go to Needham who scrapped for every ball in the centre of midfield and to Wood who is now producing what I new she was capable of from the right flank.
The visitors were robust to say the least and to our credit we kept our calm and didn't react to the intimidating aspect of their game.
If we get through the next round, away at North East Regional Leagues only surviving team, we could look forward to a real glamour tie against a National Premier Division Team, but rest assured I will not let the girls take Whitley Bay L.F.C. lightly"
